Blogging from A to Z - today's words are capitol/capital and Csavannah

Welcome to day 3 of Blogging from A to Z. My theme matches my blog theme - something to do with writing and something involving horses.

Today's grammar tip is super easy, but sometimes our fingers get carried away and type the wrong spelling. Then we're left scratching our heads wondering which spelling is correct - multiple guess right? Word isn't gonna help you out on this one!

Capital regards using uppercase letters for proper nouns, money used to invest in a project, or the seat of government for a state. (note my use of the oxford Comma, but we'll get to that for "O"!)

Capitol is the building used for legislature. To remember this is the odd one - think of the US Capitol Building and the upper level rotunda - round just like the "o" in capitol.

So one of the inevitable things with naming Arabian horses is that we tend to go for the unusual spelling. Here's a picture of Csavannah, at 3 days old. She's with mom Csage. She's almost 5 years old now and will be doing her first 30 mile endurance ride at the end of April. She's a feisty little girl, everything is done on her terms. She wouldn't accept any training, so I just took her out on the trail and she's been awesome. As long as there's no water in sight!

This picture is the above mother and daughter, all grown up, with me and my mother riding on Mother's Day.

Do you share any of your passions with a family member?

  1. I don't usually confuse Capital and Capitol reason being I hardly use the latter but great tip. Those horses are beautiful. And I guess everyone wants something that's unique so the unconventional naming. :)

    1. Csage came to me with the name Crash. Horses tend to live up to their names - at least the bad ones! She has a scar on her face from crashing into a fence before I got her. Had to change that name!
I wanted to keep the C and her sire was Medicine Man, so I wanted something for wisdom, hence sage, therefore Csage!

  4. I've long had a desire to see those cool trees that spread out so wide to get sun and water below, with a lion basking beneath. A friend of mine is in Africa right now, she just did a 50 mile save the elephants walk. Would have been awesome.

  5. I think the most confusing thing about the Capital/Capitol is the fact that one is a government seat and the other is the building! They could have at least made those two the same!! lol!

Anyway, your horses are gorgeous. It has been what feels like a lifetime since I have ridden a horse.

    1. I agree on the capital thing!
I hate going 2 days without riding. Thankfully spring is here (I say as it snow, but melts, outside.)

    1. Ooh, I just might have who/whom planned for W. And possibly a short story I wrote about a horse named Windy. And pictures of a horse name Whiskey. Might be a long post!

  7. I play the drums and both of my boys are learning now. It's cool. I love the picture of the baby horse running. It amazes me that they start to walk right away. I have always thought that was wild.

    1. I always wanted to learn the drums. Way cooler than the piano when you're in 6th grade!
Foals (in the wild) have to be ready from the coyotes that smelled mom giving birth, but there's nothing like watching them through that first struggle. I think Csavannah came out bucking!
