Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question to write about on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.
This week's topic: Best Book of June
I have been trying to work through my TBR list while editing my WIP, doing line edits on other people's books and keeping up with reading and reviewing books written by people I know, chat with or just bump into. It's tough! So I have a book in progress on my Kindle, one on my laptop along with the open edit files and a hard copy. The good news? I finally got to read THE SHIFTER, by Janice Hardy.
I highly recommend this book. But you all know it's a great book. What struck me was the effortless world building and Hardy's ability to carry the reader along with the character. Worth studying for an aspiring writer!
Now I'm heading back to local coverage of the terrible fire in Colorado Springs. We're about 20 miles south and have only dealt with occasional smoke. But the images are terrible and we have friends evacuated and at least one that probably lost her house. It's not even close to being over. Our thoughts are with all of them.
I have been waiting to read The Shifter since I first read about it on Pub Rants. I really need to pick it up!
ReplyDeleteI follow Janice Hardy's blog, so I totally believe that this is a good book. Her advice is fantastic, so I imagine her writing is equally so. Thanks for the recommendation! :)
ReplyDeleteI saw photos of the fires early this morning before work but I haven't caught up with the latest. Natural disasters are so difficult to handle; I know I feel pretty helpless when I see destruction that I can't to anything to stop.
ReplyDeleteI read Janice Hardy's blog, she has excellent writing advice.
I read Janice Hardy's blog as well and I've been meaning to pick up The Shifter for awhile now. It never seems to be in the bookstore when I'm there! I need to just order it.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed The Shifter despite my need for darker, heavier YA themes. Think that's proof of Janice's great writing :)
ReplyDeleteI have not read THE SHIFTER but will add it to my TBR.
ReplyDeleteSending good thoughts to your friends! So sorry to hear about the fires!
Any writer that can world build without getting in the way of story, or boring the reader, is a good writer. I'll have to consider this one--thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteI hope you and your friends are safe from the fire. Rachelle Gardner posted some pictures on her blog today. Amazing and terrifying.
Oooh, I loved that book! The whole series in fact :)
ReplyDeleteAlso hope everything is okay and you are safe from the fire!
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the terrible fire. There's a special place in my heart for the Colorado Springs area. I'm glad to hear that you're okay.
ReplyDeleteI haven't even heard of The Shifter. I need to take a look at this one.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone is staying safe!
